Benjamin Franklin suggested changing the alphabet, and Andrew Carnegie provided money for people to study the problem.

I think this is completely ridiculous. If they decided to change the alphabet and how we actually spell things it would screw alot of things up. They wouldn't only have to teach the students in school, but everyone else in the world too because they would have no idea what we were talking about. In the text it said something about changing the word prove to proov. To me it just looks wrong, because I was tought to spell it a different way..along with everyone else. The article said that they just ignored this completely, and I am all for it because it would just be pointless. Everyone would continue to spell things correctly and abbreviate everything as they were before.

I used this image because I believe if we changed the alphabet this is what it would look like, one big mess.

Vark

Vark Questionaire Results

Your scores were:
  • Visual: 8
  • Aural: 12
  • Read/Write: 5
  • Kinesthetic: 12

You have a multimodal (Vark) learning preference.

This really isn't a surprise. I knew that I didn't learn well through reading/writing. I always hated when a teacher would assign something to read then have a test on it later, because when I have to read something I am not interested in, it goes in one ear and out the other. I think I am going to try and improve this by reading more unappealing things and see if I can remember any of it.

Once again I couldn't figure out how to show the picture so put a url instead.

Some examples of how technology can facilitate my learning style according to ISTE-NETS:
1. Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments
      - I could let students do hands on activities using technology or digital things.
2. Model Digital-Age Work and Learning
      - I could do this by communicating to peers, adults, and students using technology.
3. Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity
      - I could do this by supporting creative thinking.

They like to touch what they want to learn. For example, if the teacher is conducting a lesson about the human body the teacher can bring models of parts of the human body like the face, arms or abdomen. The teacher can allow the students to touch the parts of the human body. Moreover, kinesthetic students have a special way to learn, which means that the teachers can get students to participate in a lot of activities (Al-Failkawei, 2005).

I agree with this completely. I feel that I am a kinesthetic learner. Anything I read, if I am not interested in it I will forget it the minute I finish. If we are learning about an egg or eggs, I would rather be able to hold one, mess with it to learn about it rather than reading about one in a book or something. I can relate to the first paragraph talking about  “It is Tough to Be a Bug” because I actually got a chance to see it last year. It was pretty neat because the technology they used made it feel like there were bugs around you, and when a stink bug came, you could smell it. I think they got their point across to anyone who has seen the short movie.

I chose this picture because the child didn't use a brush to paint, but his hands instead so he could feel the paint and really make art.

Double Journal Entry 1: Education Needs a Digital Upgrade

The picture below, I found on google. Not sure who took it so I have noone to cite.

"Pundits may be asking if the Internet is bad for our children's mental development, but the better question is whether the form of learning and knowledge-making we are instilling in our children is useful to their future." - Ms. Davidson

Honestly, I think technology is getting out of hand. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't know what to do without my cell phone and computer, but what happened to children going outside, playing, and hanging out with their friends? I have a six year old sister that has been playing the xbox and other game systems since she was like four. She's had a facebook since five. Any day she would choose these game systems over going outside, which I think is crazy.

This picture is an example of children choosing game systems over the outdoors.

introductory post

Hello, my names Kayla and I am from Morgantown, West Virginia. The grade levels I would like to teach would be k-3rd. Since I am sticking with elementary school, I think I will be teaching all subjects so I don't really have a choice.
